Lessons from GWS

It just struck me just now, out of nowhere, how very arrogant it is to assume god is male. It's not something I've thought about in probably 5 or more years, since I decided early on in Catholic high school to simply use gender neutral pronouns anywhere it was necessary. But it's amazing to me how much deeper my understanding is now of something I understood superficially way back then. It's a happy feeling about a frustrating topic

it's been a long time since i thought god was male.

how can something that i believe to be so great be confined to one gender?

I went to Catholic schools up until my last year of high school, and we actually had a fairly enlightened way of viewing God. God was called just that--we didn't assign a gender and were told that God was "unknowable." If something's unknowable, you cannot say a definitive statement about that.
I don't like the way people (particularly the really conservative Christians) have used their belief that God and Christ were male to "justify" suppressing women. For that, I will offer you a quote from one of my old friends, Ms. Sojourner Truth:
"Well, where did your Christ come from? From God and a woman! Man had nothing to do with him!"

[Author's Note: I have absolutely nothing against males or Christians, but I found that quote to be a good remedy to the sexism found in that faith. I cannot speak for either group but rather about certain aspects of them.]

At least women have dibs on Mother Nature. Much better than Father Time...
